I'm about to tell you a story that...well, all I can say is sometimes strange things happen.
Emotion can be very powerful. It's a force that flows through us and can shape our reality.
A few months ago, my husband and I went to Disney. As much as I love Disney, I do not enjoy checking into hotels. Of course, I'm very grateful for a warm welcome and I understand that hotels have things they want to explain--for both of our benefit. But it's just that traveling seems to drain me and by the time I've arrived to my destination I usually want to shower, eat and go to bed.
Now before I go further, I need to back up, just a bit. Prior to arriving to our hotel, my husband and I were in what's called a "Minnie Van". This is like the Uber of Disney. It's adorable! While in this car, I received a text from a friend and I subsequently offered to send her distant Reiki. She said yes, so I immediately got to work. Our driver had music playing and as I invited the Reiki energy in, the song "Edge of Seventeen" by Stevie Nicks came on. If you're familiar with Stevie Nicks, you'll know that there's a certain air of mystery that seems to surround her songs. Anyhow, I didn't think much of it but I could feel the Reiki energy swell with the music, growing stronger with each pulsing chorus. As the melody ended, we pulled up to our hotel and I allowed the Reiki energy to slowly fade away but I noticed my own energy had shifted. I felt very alive, powerful and grounded.
We entered the hotel and were whisked away to be given the run down--schedules, keys, etc. Wanting to go directly to our room but not be rude, I felt frustration growing through me. This is where things got a bit strange.
We were sat on a beautiful sofa as a lovely man began telling us about breakfast offerings over the course of our stay when his co-worker came over with a silver tray holding two glasses of champagne. I don't drink (I just don't enjoy it, not my thing but no judgement!) so I knew I'd have to say, no thank you. For whatever reason, I always feel really bad turning welcome drinks down because it's a nice offering. So, once again my frustration grew.
Now I know these are silly, "problems". We can hardly call them that. But I was tired, hungry and ready for bed. We all get a little hangry every now and then, right?
As the man with the champagne tray approached I felt my energy surge. I took one look at the champagne glasses and as I did one of them burst into tiny pieces as the golden liquid spilled out onto the floor. The man jumped, completely shocked and bewildered by the event. It's as if a tiny bomb had erupted within the glass--breaking with no visible outside influence or force. Nearly speechless, he began apologizing, not understanding what just happened.
My husband looked at me with nothing but confidence in his wide eyes as he mouthed, "did you do that?".
Even before he said that, I knew my frustration and heightened energy from Stevie's song had created this moment. Where intention goes, energy flows. Even if it's not conscious intention.
So, I suddenly found myself apologizing for breaking the glass to which both men seemed very confused. Our greeting ended quicker then expected and within minutes we were off to bed.
While this was an experience we may not have every day, I do believe it illustrates the power we have which can be fueled by emotion.
Emotion is meant to flow through us but many times we trap it inside ourselves. Sometimes because we don't know how to process it, or perhaps we're not aware of what we're feeling, others times because feeling a certain way is all we know. It's become normal for us, even if it's not good for us. Imagine if I had buried the strong frustration I felt. It would fester until I addressed it. This can create dis-ease within the body. Of course, I don't recommend going around breaking glasses but there are a lot of ways to diffuse emotion. In my case, I needed to take care of myself by eating and drinking a little bit more water that day probably wouldn't have hurt either.
I find journaling, meditation, grounding and Reiki to be helpful for moving emotion through the body as well.
After doing this work, make sure to invite in the way you do want to feel. Maybe you want to focus on feeling more peaceful, abundant or well rested. Whatever it is, spend a few moments letting those wonderful energies swirl through you.
